Crimson Fruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This huge fruit tree grows up to 56 feet (17.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, straight trunk covered in hard, rough, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.
The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of large, kidney-shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are beige and crimson.
In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, dark grey blossoms with wide petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like skunk spray.
In early summer it produces , 5 pointed fruit. The smooth peach skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the very soft purple flesh is sweet and dry. The bronze seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
