Climbing Citron Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in thick, silky, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of small, broad, flat leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of copper and lime green that gradient shifts to subtle blue at the top.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of giant, vivid yellow blossoms with 5 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a mildly strong scent that smells like old books.

In early winter it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The fuzzy silver skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft cyan flesh is sour and very dry. The green seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
