This copper moss is commonly found blanketing small areas In rainy mountain ranges, and In heathlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is very flexible.
When mature, emerald heart-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
It is suitable for making paper
