Black Spined Succulent

This short caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is black, and is covered in thousands of rigid orange spines. It has a wavy, thick, grey trunk atop a round clump of wrinkled, exposed roots. The branches are thick, gnarled and moss green and slate and are short and thick.

The serrated-edged, wide leaves are found in light grey, cyan and brown varieties. They are delicate, and take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 47 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid ashy green petals decorated with azure dots and a orange central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 10 years. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of 13 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like candle wax.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the dark red flesh is rough, and the lime sap is thin.
