Red Spined Succulent

This small leaf succulent grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is red, and is covered in large amounts of fine, dull red, hair-like spines. The serrated-edged, fan-like leaves are found in white, green and cyan varieties. Very large amounts of them grow from the base in a random bunch. The leaves are flimsy, and easily come away when pulled.

It is slow growing, taking 40 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are light grey on the edges and blue at the center grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 39 raised, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like old shoes.

The leaf succulent's skin is thin, the lilac flesh is rough, and the hazel sap is thin and causes vomiting if consumed.
