In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with 7 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have no scent.
In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The crispy grey skin is stretchy and spicy and savoury, and the soft light yellow flesh is sweet and juicy. The light brown seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
