Blackbell

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 82 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, slanted stems covered in delicate, rough, black bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are long and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of giant, thin, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark red and dark grey varieties, frail and rough.

In early summer it produces thick bunches of giant, slate blossoms with broad, flat petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like apple.

In early winter tiny finger-like fruits ripen. The sticky indigo skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft amber flesh is sweet and oily. The deep yellow seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.
