Violetvine

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 76 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of wide, wavy stems covered in thin, knobbly, yellow bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of small, fan-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either violet, or blood red with pale yellow edges, delicate and waxy.

It produces hundreds of medium-sized, brilliant blue flowers with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like sugar. In late spring it forms smallturquoise aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
