Crimsonvine

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 128 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many long and flexible, straight stems covered in delicate, waxy, dark green bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches trail down to the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of small, long, tapering, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to hazel at the top, frail and clammy.

In late summer it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, brilliant red blossoms with perforated petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like alcohol.

In early autumn small perforated fruits ripen. The soft purple skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is spicy and very juicy. The blood red seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
