Vinefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in thick, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the light wood is brown.

The numerous branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with very large amounts of large, V-shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either beige, or silver with bronze zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, violet blossoms with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like perfume.

In early winter it produces small, pleated fruit. The smooth yellow skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy silver flesh is salty and oily. The beige seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
