Crimson Pine

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big shrub grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for around 24 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many wide, straight stems covered in thick, ridged, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are very short and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, long, narrow, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are brown on the sides and intense red at the center, flimsy and sticky.

In mid-spring it produces large amounts of medium-sized, slate blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like onion.

In late winter small circular fruits ripen. The fuzzy sky blue skin is delicate and sweet, and the crunchy brown flesh is sour and juicy. The brown seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.
