Azure Spine

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in thousands of flexible azure spines. The bulbous, silver trunk can grow to as much as 15 feet (4.6 meters) in diameter. Its burgundy branches are very long and thick.

The serrated-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are yellow-green with green tips. They are delicate, but take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 13 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of gentle green, grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 51 petals. It has a strong scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the olive flesh is rubbery, and the brown sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
