Violetberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 71 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, twisting trunk covered in waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is dark brown.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small amounts of large, broad, flat leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of yellow-green that gradient shifts to violet at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, light blue blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In early summer it produces tiny, trumpet-shaped fruit. The smooth caramel skin is peel-able and extremely savoury, and the very soft ashy purple flesh is sour and powdery. The dark brown seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
