Copper

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with sparse amounts of small, wispy leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are copper at the bottom and gold with vibrant orange patches at the top.

In early spring, it produces thousands of large, gold blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like candle wax.

In late summer it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The smooth vibrant green skin is thin and bitter and sour, and the crunchy olive flesh is sweet and syrupy. The slate seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
