This pink-red moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In marshes, and In bogs.
It is large, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is slightly robust; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release millions of spores.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is often home to a particular bird species.
