Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in cracked, brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow.

The branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are light brown with silver tips.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of large, sky blue blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like lemon.

In early summer it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The hairy florescent red skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the soft lime flesh is sour and oily. The yellow seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
