Violet Ashplant

This small caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The thin stem is pink-red, and is covered in handfuls of rigid green spines. It has a wonky, thin, dark green trunk atop a thin web of knobbly, exposed roots. The branches are wide and green or indigo and are tall, rigid and upright.

The ripped-edged, asymmetrical leaves are found in purple and violet varieties. They are delicate, and take little effort to detach.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are generally brown; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grows at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of handfuls of widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like ashes.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the dark orange flesh is sticky, and the brown sap is thin.
