Crimson Pine

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in silky, brown-green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are short and thick, with hundreds of twigs covered with large amounts of tiny, burgundy needles. The needles themselves are flexible.

In late summer it produces small, red, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
