Brown Spike Succulent

This small caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The wide stem is brown, and is covered in sharp spines. The round, olive trunk can grow to as much as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in diameter. Its green branches are very long and thick.

The serrated-edged, sickle shaped leaves are found in red and cream varieties. They are flimsy, and detach easily.

It is very fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are dark brown on the underside and purple on the top grow at the top, reappearing once every 2 years. The flower head is largely flat with several raised narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like skunk spray.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the hazel flesh is soft, and the lime sap is thin.
