Climbing plant type: Bine (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This modest-sized bine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 32 feet (9.8 meters) and growing as high as 44 feet (13.4 meters).
It takes 6 months for the brown stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 3 inches (8 cm) and remain soft and fleshy.
The wide, crispy leaves reach up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) in length. They are vibrant purple on the sides and bright blue at the center, and have smooth edges.
During late spring, the bine produces copious amounts of giant caramel flowers, and during the late summer, after flowering, it produces a few small seed pods.
