This orange-yellow moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In rainy mountain ranges.
It is enormous, growing up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is very light.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release dozens of spores.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
