Caramel Sunflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This giant flower grows up to 8.7 feet (2.6 meters) tall. Its lime green stems grow in bunches of 8 and are wispy and straight, and the giant, gray-green leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Each stem splits 2 to 6 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 83 cm (32.7 inches) wide, with solid caramel petals decorated with brown lines and a red central disk. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. They are hardy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like varnish, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is visited by a large variety of them.
