Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in delicate, smooth, brown and grey bark, and inside, the light wood is yellow.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of small, circular leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are pale purple and grey.
In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, violet blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like new carpet.
In mid-autumn it produces , needle-like fruit. The smooth olive skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft turquoise flesh is savoury and very dry. The gentle yellow seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
The seeds are toxic to people but not to certain animals.
