Magentaberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, yellow bark, and inside, the dense wood is black.

The small bunches of branches are short stubs and are covered with sparse amounts of large, thin leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either magenta, or red with pink patches.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, bold blue blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like soap.

In late autumn it produces large, circular fruit. The soft deep orange skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft red flesh is sweet and dry. The subtle yellow seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
