Aquamarine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The perforated stem is lime green, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible grey spines. The crooked, faded green trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the top. Its copper branches trail down across the ground and start growing at the top the stem.

The sparse amounts of smooth-edged, finger-like leaves are aquamarine and olive. They are frail, but take little effort to detach.

It is very fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are generally deep blue; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grow at the top, reappearing once every 7 years. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of raised narrow petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like something putrid.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the green flesh is smooth, and the dark grey sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
