This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing small areas In heathlands, and On trees.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is slightly tough.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release hundred of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
