Bluefruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 34 feet (10.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 20 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in hard, cracked, light gray bark, and inside, the light wood is pale brown-grey.

The tangled mess of branches are short stubs and are covered with handfuls of tiny, fan-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in blood red, florescent blue and blood red varieties.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, azure blossoms with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like coffee.

In late summer it produces small, finger-like fruit. The clammy beige skin is delicate and bitter and spicy, and the slightly crunchy sky blue flesh is sweet and very dry. The white seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
