Silverwood

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 88 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of long and flexible, straight stems covered in very thick, waxy, light gray bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short stubs that and are covered with sparse amounts of small, finger-like, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are grey with amber tips, delicate and sticky.

In late spring it produces copious amounts of giant, silver blossoms with 5 shield-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like new books.

In early autumn oblong fruits ripen. The waxy caramel skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft pastel orange flesh is sweet and bitter and powdery. The orange seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
