Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, slanted trunk covered in waxy, dark brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow-brown.

The abundance of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of miniature, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either amber or brilliant green, with hazel edges.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, azure blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like fresh linen.

In early winter it produces small, shield-shaped fruit. The rubbery indigo skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy deep blue flesh is overwhelmingly salty and very juicy. The red seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It is suitable for making paper
