Amberberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, light brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The thick clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of large, stiff, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either amber or brilliant green, with hazel edges.

In early spring, it produces several small, yellow blossoms with broad, flat petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like damp.

In early summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The crispy grey skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy deep blue flesh is bitter and salty and dry. The olive seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
