This copper moss is commonly found growing in large clumps In bogs, and In damp forests.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is overwhelmingly strong.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release millions of spores.

Several parts of the grass have medicinal properties.
