Magenta Bellflower

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 36 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, curved stems covered in thin, smooth, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are very long and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, sickle shaped, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are azure on the sides and magenta at the center, resilient and smooth.

In early summer it produces many clusters of small, yellow flowers with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like baby powder.


It is often referred to as the most beautiful of all flowers.
The sap is edible and very savoury.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
