Indigo Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, slanted trunk covered in thin, cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The small bunches of branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of large, 8 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either orange, or indigo with brown dots.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, red blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In early summer it produces , wide fruit. The waxy cream skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy indigo flesh is salty and very dry. The orange seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
