Silkwood Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 75 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, silky, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The sparse patches of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of covered in fine hairs, large, very thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are white on the sides and slate at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, blood red blossoms with 8 V-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like rich perfume.

In late summer it forms tiny, blood red seed pods.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It is excellent at collecting and storing carbon dioxide
It is suitable for use as a construction material
