Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This colossal tree grows up to 124 meters (406.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 319 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in thick, ridged, yellow bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of fuzzy, giant, perforated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are florescent purple and cream.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, cyan blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like old books.

In late summer it forms giant, black, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
