Magenta Rosevine

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is wispy, and the large, burgundy leaves are light emerald on the underside and are 3 pointed with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid magenta petals decorated with crimson lines and a cream central disk. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of several widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a strong scent that smells like roses, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.

The seeds are toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
