This red moss is commonly found growing in large clumps In marshes, and In bogs.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is extremely sturdy; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release millions of spores.

It can grow in even the most barren lands.
Several parts of the fruit tree have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
