Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This colossal flower grows up to 8.4 feet (2.6 meters) tall. Its gray-green stem is thin and straight, and the miniature, yellow and orange-yellow leaves are stiff, pointed with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Two small flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 48 cm (18.9 inches) wide, with solid magenta petals and a crimson central disk. The flower head is made up of 9 petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.
It has a delicate scent that smells like rotting meat, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is visited by a large variety of them.
