Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in smooth, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of giant, slender, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in intense blue and copper varieties.

In early spring, it produces lots of giant, amber blossoms with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like varnish.

In mid-summer it produces , finger-like fruit. The fuzzy cream skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft azure flesh is overwhelmingly sour and oily. The hazel seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
