Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in thin, cracked, black bark, and inside, the very light wood is white with black speckles.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, needle-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are subtle green and blood red.

In early spring, it produces balls of medium-sized, red blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like sweat.

In mid-autumn it produces , 9 pointed fruit. The sticky magenta skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy aquamarine flesh is spicy and very dry. The florescent yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
