Bronzeberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, slanted trunk covered in cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of miniature, sickle shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either black or amber, with aquamarine splotches.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, light grey blossoms with 6 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like musk.

In early summer it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The waxy amber skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy bronze flesh is bland and sticky. The vibrant red seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
