This pink-red moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In damp forests, and In heathlands.
It is average-sized, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is very durable; it is very difficult to kill.
When mature, emerald circular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release millions of spores.

It has impressive regenerative properties.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
