Mahogany Thornbush
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 23 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in fine, cracked, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.
The branches are short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, spear shaped, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are cyan on the edges and slate at the center, light and covered in fine hairs.
In late spring it produces a handful of giant, yellow blossoms with circular petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like new books.
In early winter tiny broad, flat fruits ripen. The sticky peach skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is bitter and salty, and the soft yellow flesh is spicy and dry. The green seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
