Golden Spike
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This big caudiciform grows up to 88 feet (26.8 meters) tall. The fan-like stem is brown, and is covered in sharp spines. It has a twisting, narrow, gold trunk atop a slender block of rough, exposed roots. The branches are flat and azure and are short, rigid and upright.
The toothed-edged, triangular leaves are found in yellow, gentle blue and indigo varieties. They are robust, but take little effort to detach.
It is slow growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of florescent green grows at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has an overpowering scent that smells like soap.
The caudiciform's skin is tough, the green flesh is smooth, and the bold purple sap is thin.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
