Azureberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is pine-coloured.

The numerous branches are very long and thin and are covered with large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are grey and cream.

In early spring, it produces bunches of small, pink blossoms with circular shaped petals. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like marzipan.

In late summer it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The rubbery azure skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is salty and sour, and the very soft white flesh is sweet and juicy. The vibrant red seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
