Blood Red Trumpet

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, yellow-green leaves are pleated with jagged edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single medium-sized flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with petals that are beige in the center, slate in the middle and blood red at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 7 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like warm milk, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator.

It is suitable for making strong rope
