Lilac

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its olive and yellow-green stem is very thin and splits into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the huge, purple leaves are wispy with jagged edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Two large flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with lilac petals and a yellow center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 41 curved petals. They are hardy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like marzipan, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
