Copper

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 163 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of branched, slanted stems covered in rough, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down across the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, broad, flat, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are dark grey at the bottom and copper with violet edges at the top, sturdy and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces several medium-sized, cream blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late autumn tiny long, tapering fruits ripen. The fuzzy beige skin is delicate and spicy and salty, and the crunchy slate flesh is bitter and very dry. The florescent yellow seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
