Blackberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 62 feet (18.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The abundance of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of huge, very thin leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either black or vibrant purple, with lime edges.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, beige blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late summer it produces , oval fruit. The hairy green skin is peel-able and sour, and the crunchy light brown flesh is spicy and savoury and very juicy. The slate seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It is suitable for making paper
