Crimson Heartvine

This enormous flower grows up to 11.7 feet (3.6 meters) tall. Its gray stem is thin, and the huge, emerald leaves are long, tapering with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

3 to 8 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 28 cm (11.0 inches) wide, with deep red petals that gradient shift to white on the outer edge. The central disk is violet. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 26 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like baby powder, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to bees.
